How to Download, Unzip, and Add a Claude Project File
Overview
Some Copy Viking resources are provided as downloadable files that need to be unzipped before you add them to Claude. This article explains how to download a framework file from your members area, extract it on your computer, and upload it into a Claude project.
The example shown in the walkthrough uses a Cozy Co-Author framework file, but the same process applies to similar downloadable project resources.
Before you start
Make sure you have:
- Access to your Copy Viking members area.
- Access to Claude.
- A Claude project already created, or the ability to create one.
Step 1: Download the file from your members area
- Log in to your Copy Viking members area.
- Go to your dashboard.
- Find the relevant product under Your Products.
- Open the product area.
- Find the downloadable framework or project file.
- Click Download.
- Wait for the file to download to your computer.
Most browsers save downloaded files in your Downloads folder unless you chose a different location.
Step 2: Unzip the downloaded file
If the download is a zipped file, you need to extract it before adding it to Claude.
- Open your Downloads folder.
- Find the downloaded zip file.
- Right-click the zip file.
- Choose Extract All or your computer’s equivalent unzip option.
- Keep the default extraction folder unless you prefer another location.
- Click Extract.
- Open the extracted folder.
Use the extracted file inside the folder, not the original zip file.
Step 3: Add the file to your Claude project
- Open Claude.
- Go to the project you want to use.
- Open the extracted folder on your computer so you can see the file you want to add.
- Drag the extracted file into your Claude project.
- Drop it into the project file or knowledge area when prompted.
- Wait for Claude to finish uploading the file.
Once uploaded, the file should appear in your Claude project.
Step 4: Choose the recommended Claude model
If your project instructions recommend a specific Claude model, select that model before starting.
In the walkthrough, the recommended choice is Sonnet 4.5 rather than Sonnet 4.6, because it may allow more usage per session.
Model names and availability may change over time, so use the model recommended in your current product instructions.
Step 5: Start the project
- Click into the Claude message box.
- Type your starting message, such as Let’s start.
- Click the send button.
- Claude will begin using the uploaded project file as part of the conversation.
Troubleshooting
Claude is not using the file
Check that you uploaded the extracted file, not the original zip file. If needed, remove the upload and add the extracted file again.
I cannot find the downloaded file
Check your Downloads folder first. You can also use your computer’s search feature to look for the file name.
I cannot unzip the file
Right-click the downloaded file and look for Extract All, Unzip, or a similar option. On some computers, you may need to open the file first and then choose an extract option.
The upload is taking a long time
Wait for Claude to finish uploading and processing the file before sending your first message. If the upload fails, refresh Claude and try again.
I do not see the recommended model
Claude model availability can vary by account and over time. Select the closest recommended model available to you, or follow the latest instructions inside your product area.
